THE EGYPTIAN SOCIETY OF PEDIATRIC ALLERGY AND IMMUNOLOGY

World Allergy Day

A Proclamation

Because, the World Allergy Organization is the leading global resource and advocate in the field of allergy, advancing excellence in clinical care, education, research and training through a world-wide alliance of allergy and clinical immunology societies…

Because, allergic diseases affect 22% of the world’s population ….

Because, the worldwide annual cost of allergic rhinitis alone, including drugs, consultations and time off work is in excess of US$20 billion per year and the cost of allergy drugs alone, worldwide, is estimated to be US$8 billion …

Because, allergic diseases affect millions of children around the world, and are increasing in severity …

Because accurate diagnosis can lead to correct treatment and improved quality of life for sufferers …

Because, those who suffer from allergies can see much improvement in their quality of life through effective educational programs that teach about the proper care of allergies…

Because allergen avoidance in infants at high allergy risk (those whose parents or siblings have allergic disease) may benefit from avoidance of dust mites and pets during the first year of life…

Because avoidance of parental smoking and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke during early childhood can prevent the aggravation of allergies and asthma

Because occupational exposure to allergens is avoidable …..

Because, all citizens within the community should become more aware of allergies and their management and treatment...

Now, therefore, I,  Professor Yehia El-Gamal, President of ESPAI, do hereby proclaim  July 8th, 2005 as World Allergy Day in Egypt and call upon all citizens, community agencies, schools, day care providers, government agencies, health care providers, the media and families to increase their participation in our efforts to improve the quality of life for those with allergies, thereby strengthening the community in which we live.
